Wilanow Palace

Baroque Palace in Wilanow is the most important monuments of Polish national culture. Today it is also the place of many cultural events, concerts and meetings. The most famous events include the Royal Summer Concerts in the Rose Garden and the International Summer Academy of Early Music. Wilanow Park is an integral part of the palace and garden in Wilanow. It is an impressive attraction for tourists, arriving here from all over the world. The entrance to the park is through gate from the palace courtyard, which was transformed in the nineteenth century. When you enter the park you notice a very charming place, - the Academos grove. At the entrance to the grove there are statues of Polish poets: Jan Kochanowski and Franciszek Karpinski.
In the Wilanow park there are gardens in different styles: a two-storey Baroque garden, neo-Renaissance rose garden, English garden and Anglo-Chinese landscaped park.
Baroque garden is the oldest part of the Wilanów park. It is characterized by rich colors. The dominant colors are red, yellow (gold), pink, white, orange and blue.
There are lots of species and variety of climbing roses in the rose garden. Tourist can admire them from early summer to late autumn.
The oldest trees, including 200-years old oaks and many exotic species dominate here. One of the oldest elements in this part of the park there is a pond. It existed at the time of King John III Sobieski.
As far as the English landscape garden, an essential element of the northern park are water reservoirs and Wilanow lake with its multifarious coastline. The park is included in one of the largest water gardens in Europe.

Palace in Wilanow

History of Wilanow Palace began on 23 April 23 in 1677. On that day the village, then known as Milanów, was owned by Jan III Sobieski. At the beginning a mansion was rather small. However, according to the principle that "the appetite grows with eating," the military successes caused that the original object has changed and an impressive facility was created. The biggest works were done in 1677-1696. After that, the building combined the elements of a nobleman's mansion, an Italian villa garden and palace in the French style of Louis XIV. After the death of the King's, Palace became the property of his sons, who did not care tuppence for the residence. They sold it to one of the richest women in contemporary Poland - Elizabeth Sieniawska in 1720. She has continued the construction work started by Sobieski for nine years. Thanks to her, the side wings were built. The king did not have time to implement them.
For the centuries, royal gardens have undergone constant transformation. Successive owners of Wilanow Palace have expanded this area and made their own changes in accordance with their tastes and fashions.
In 1805 it was opened here one of the first museums in Poland. In January 1945, the National Museum in Warsaw took care of the Wilanow Palace. It has established its department here. The most important events in Polish history seemed to spare the object in Wilanow - it belongs to the few monuments in Warsaw that survived in unchanged shape in the whole period of World War II.
The current appearance of the park is the result of reconstructive work of Professor Gerard Ciolek, who created it in that shape in the 1950s of the twentieth century.

Wilanow Park is open daily all year round.
