Health resort Krynica

(the original name Krzenycze) already existed before 1547. The city's development came up in seventeenth century, when the medicinal value of mineral springs were discovered. Spa foundations gave "Little House", built in 1794, which included the first bathing establishments since 1804.
For Krynica as a spa town the best time began in 1856. It was possible thanks to Joseph Dietl, a professor at the Jagiellonian University, who considered the father of Polish balneology. Then came into existence next spa facilities: Old Mineral Baths, Old Mud Baths, Spa House, Home of Pump Room wooden promenade, many guesthouses and theater larch. The value of Krynica increased in 1876, when a railway line to Muszyna was built here and extended to Krynica in 1911.
In the late nineteenth century, Krynica was popular and quality accommodation and meeting pace for many famous Poles (Jan Matejko, A. Grottger, Henryk Sienkiewicz, JI Kraszewski). In the interwar period came here also: L. Solski, H. Modjeska, W. Reymont, J. Tuwim and KI Gałczyński.
After World War I, Polish authorities took control over the resort. They restored it and some new facilities were built: "New Mineral Baths" pension "Lwigród", "New Spa House". In 1919, on holiday or treatment came here 10 thousand. people, and in 1938 this figure had risen to 40 thousand a year. Of course, the Second World War and the occupation ended the development of the spa. After that time the whole country rose from the rubble. In Krynica, there were new spa objects, the main pump-room, concert hall, tennis courts, playgrounds. The town has become the largest resort in the team Resorts Krynicko-Popradzkich.
