Citadel Warsaw

is an example the historic military architecture from nineteenth century. In the capital, it is a popular place, situated on the escarpment of the Vistula. Currently, the citadel still held by the Polish Army. There is also headquarters of the Land Forces Command Security Battalion, and 3 of the Land Forces Command, which is composed of Company Representative of the Land Forces. Moreover, a lots of institutions entirely civilian facilities, including European Academy of Arts also operates in the Citadel.

Warsaw Citadel

is a Russian fortress. It was built on the orders of Tsar Nicholas I in Warsaw in 1832-1834 after suppressing the November Uprising, the spirit of control over the city, being the center of the Polish independence movement. However, it has never played a defensive role. In fact in one of the building, called Pavilion X, a prison for political prisoners was located.

The Citadel area was of 36 ha and has a plan similar to the pentagon, which stuck to the longest side of the Vistula slope. For the purpose of the fortifications were demolished 76 houses and seized more than 64 thousand properties and displaced up to 15 thousand. local residents.

October 13, 1923 was assassinated on the citadel. Still unknown perpetrator intentionally or accidentally blew up an ammunition in the Citadel. In result 28 people were killed and more than 40 seriously injured.
After regaining independence in 1918 and the Citadel was repossessed by Polish Army, Pavilion X was used as military array. Later on it was adjusted for military flats for the local garrison. In the Eastern wing prisoner's relics were stored.
