Mielno town
Area Mielno - Uniescie is low-lying, flat or undulating plateau of moraine. It is a remnant of the glacial period, located on the height from 0 to 7 m above sea level. The Baltic Sea Region is famous for the preserved sand dunes. So the same situation is in Mielno. The city is separated from the Baltic Sea by the high dune zone, which consists of the white front sand dune and the old - gray sand dune and dune forest. The most valuable asset of this territory is sea with its and clean water, fine beaches, which are over 10 km long and 480 meters wide.
Mielno and surroundings belong to the most attractive places on the Polish coast in terms of tourist and natural environment. Mielno is located directly adjacent to the Baltic Sea and Lake Jamno. Large woodland, good links of transport, and many attractive hiking trails and microclimate allow for quiet and active holidays. Everyone will find something for themselves. Many guest houses, rooming houses and camps generate good accommodation offer. It is worth noting that in Mielno - Uniescie there are all year round wellness facilities, which help patients in healing the disease of the nervous system, cardiovascular, inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, thyroid and others.
The earliest document mentioning Mielno dates to 1266 years. At the beginning it was a fishing village. Then it was built here a great prosperous trade port. However, frequent storms in the Baltic Sea have regularly destroyed the infrastructure of the port. For stability of the existence, the inhabitants of Mielno changed their business to tourism. In the mid-nineteenth century many tourists have been arriving to Mielno and the city was converted slowly in the elegant spa resort. To this day, there are pensions from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century
In that time, the sea was dread and assimilated with superstitious imaginations. There were also news about the extraordinary properties of sea bathing, which helped in various diseases. As people recognized healing and toughening properties of sea bathing, they began to create spa resorts here.
At the earliest, in the twenties or thirties of the nineteenth century, Mielno began to realize its potential as a small spa resort. Those were the times of many social restrictions of the rules, regarding bath in sea. Therefore, to 1881 baths for men and women together were forbidden. Women usually took a bath from 8:00 to 10:00 am and from 13:00 to 15:00, and men from 6:00 to 8:00 and from 17:00 to 19:00.
After the Second World War, in 1946, the first holiday houses put into operation. They were managed by the State Board of Resorts in Western Pomerania.
