is defined as a city of active people. Although there is no high-class monuments, the tourists appreciate the attractive location and the charming qualities of sightseeing. The town is located in The Masurian Lakeland. It is rich in lakes and hills of glacial origin. The south-eastern part of the commune of Mrągowo lies within the Masurian Landscape Park. In the city and the immediate vicinity there are 11 lakes, which attract water sports enthusiasts every year.
Owing to its attractive location among lakes and forests as well as its various tourist attractions, Mrągowo serves as the summer capital of the region. Lovers of leisure activities can come here for canoeing, hiking, cycling, excursions by coach, horse riding, mushrooming and sunbathing on the clean beaches by the lakes. The town offers many interesting hiking routes, cycle tracks and waterways leading to places such as Kętrzyn, Sorkwity, Reszel, Święta Lipka and the Great Masurian Lakes.
Incredible attraction here is Krutynia River, which attracts tourists from around the world. Everyone can flow by its mainstream. The water trail on Krutynia begins in Sorkwity, direct through many lakes, streams and river to the lake Beldany.
In Mragowo it is worth visiting the Museum, which is located in the historic town hall. Another attraction is the original the Four Winds Mountain. It is thanks to it on Masuria, Land of the Great Masurian Lakes, is a true paradise for skiers.
Mragowo is for everyone. The great cultural event held here. If tourists need laughter, it will provide them with the Mrągowo Masurian Cabaret Night. Music lovers will appreciate country music, which is famous in Mragowo and the rest of Masuria. Polish Cowboys, which are really huge group, come to the city in the last weekend of July to take part in the famous International Music Festival “Country Picnic”. Do not miss the small Western town Mrongoville. It is a reproduction of a typical town from the Wild West from the late nineteenth century.

was just a small settlement, which was established at the wooden Teutonic guards in the mid-fourteenth century. The first information about the settlement is from 1348. Mention of the existence of the city there appeared in the years 1404-1407.
Location of the city confirms the fact that the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights Konrad von Jungingen gave cities rights to Mragowo. After the Thirteen Years' War, under the Peace of Torun in 1466, Mragowo adhered the Teutonic country. This situation lasted until 1520. Then the Polish-Czech troops entered the city. On this occasion they captured and burned the city. Events from 1806-1807 should be included to the subsequent tragic one. Then the forces of Napoleon and the Russian - Prussian troops made next devastation in the city.
Until 1818, Mragowo adhered administratively to Szestno. Later it became the county seat. In 1825 a city hall was built here. In the second half of the nineteenth century began a period of splendor and economic development of the city and its environs. In 1897, railway line started to work in Mragowo, It connected the city with Rastenburg - Ketrzyn, and a year later with Biskupiec. World War II interrupted passe in the region. In 1945, during the occupation of the city by Russian troops Mragowo was largely destroyed.
However, despite such a turbulent history, it succeed to keep the original development plan for the city to our times.
