Sopot

is a popular seaside tourist destination with a resort status. Sopot with nearby Gdansk and Gdynia creates TriCity agglomeration.
From the land side the town is sheltered by forested moraine hills, and from the open sea separates them Hel Peninsula. It causes, that water of Baltic Sea are warmer than in other seaside resorts. The houses and villas, wooded land, historical parks and gardens are very charming and give an unique character of this city. Green is an important element here, and it is up over 60% of the area city. Sopot is considered the best organized and safest seaside resort in the Pomeranian province for last few years.
The pier is the most characteristic place in Sopot. It is also an inherent attribute of this city. The length of wooden pier in Sopot is 511,5 meters. It is the longest bridge in Europe. It is an ideal place for leisurely strolls for health - iodine concentration at the end of the pier is two times above-average, which is on land. There is also harbor for tourist passenger ships and water taxis. Tickets for the cruises on lines Sopot - Westerplatte - Gdańsk (60 min.) and Sopot - Gdynia (30 min.) can be purchased in the counter at the entrance to the pier.
There is absolutely a event, connected with Sopot. It is Sopot Festival. Probably everyone in the media even saw a wonderful scene of the Forest Opera, hosting many stars from home and abroad. The covered outdoor amphitheater, in the opinion of experts is regarded as one of the most beautiful and excellent facilities in terms of acoustics in Europe.

In addition to using the sun and Sopot beaches, it is worth making the city tour to see the town and Southern Baths. It is a decorative wooden building from 1907. Currently there is the hotel “Zhong Hua” (Polish Army 1 Avenue).

Sopot

At the beginning Sopot was a fishing village. The first mention about Sopot comes from 1283. After the partition of Poland in 1772, Sopot belonged to the Prussian and came under the administration of the Kingdom of Prussia.
In the mid-sixteenth century, wealthy patricians from Gdansk and diplomats of foreign countries began to build their summer homes in Sopot. Then the city began to appear as a highly exclusive and elite place. Among them it was a surgeon major J.J. Haffner, who bought a piece of land here and built the Health Home in 1823. A year later put Spa House. His next project was the foundation of the parks, which exists to this day. Furthermore, he demonstrated a very innovative idea and assigned trails for walking and built the first pier. Today, it is a characteristic element of the city. Sopot turn into popular resort on this seaside. Sopot developed. There were built more and more holiday homes and villas. There were also more and more visitors, arriving here. October 8, 1901 Sopot received city rights. It has its own coat of arms approved by the Emperor Wilhelm II since 1902. Sopot slowly became very fashionable place in Europe. It was called the Riviera of the North. After World War II in 1945, Sopot, was subsumed to Polish territory. The German population was displaced. Their places were taken by the Poles from Pomerania, east and central Poland.
