Zakopane

is the largest urban center in the Tatra Mountains. It is also a major center for winter sports. It has been long known as the winter capital of Polish. There are so many attractions here that both in winter and summer, everyone will find something interesting. Skiers can take advantage well-prepared slopes and ski lifts. In summer you can hike, gain peaks and valleys.
Undoubtedly, it is worth getting one of the Tatra Mountains. The cable car is active to Gubalowka Hill, Kasprowy Wierch and Butorowy Wierch during the entire season. In the lower parts of the mountains, so in Zakopane you can visit a lots of museums and galleries. And the main street in Zakopane, called Krupowki, it is a very famous cultural and entertainment center of Zakopane. There are many historical buildings, pubs and restaurants in this area. Zakopane

was founded as a seasonal shepherds settlement. The earliest documents mentioning Zakopane date to the 17th century. In 1676 it was a village of 43 inhabitants.

Originally the settlement was ruled by a king. After that it took possession of the Imperial and Royal Austrian treasury. In 1824, together with a section of the Tatra Mountains, it was sold to the Homola family. These times were not very interesting in the history of the city. Zakopane grew greatly over the 19th century, as more and more people were attracted by its salubrious climate, and soon developed from a small village into a climatic health resort of 3,000 inhabitants (1889). Then Titus Chalubinski began promoting this place, and especially its unique climate characteristics. In the same year Count Władysław Zamoyski became the owner of the city with a large part of the Tatras. In 1933, Zakopane, Poland received city rights. World War II times were very hard for the whole country. During World War II, Zakopane served as an important Polish underground staging point between Poland and Hungary. And the cellars of hotel “Palace" German Gestapo adapted to the arrest.
